Relax, Refresh, and Be Your Best: Bringing Mindfulness and Joy to the Classroom

Reiki Master/Teacher and Certified Sound Therapy Practitioner, Darleen Gardner, brings research-based evidence and personal experience to the idea that wellness practices are effective in helping to create healing environments. An emphasis will be placed on the benefits of self-care practices, such as meditation, relaxation, and joyful activity. Darleen will share information on mindfulness as a path to increasing calmness, kindness, compassion, and focus in the classroom and within the school community. Teachers, staff and, by extension, students will benefit from the mindfulness exercises presented in this overview of alternative practices that can help to improve school climate and create a more positive experience in the classroom. Some sound healing activities that can easily be implemented in the classroom will be demonstrated, and a guided mindfulness meditation will be offered. We will also look at some ways that these practices can be applied as an alternative to traditional discipline.
